Agriculture in Gwydir Country

The Gwydir district has a very diverse range of livestock with numerous breeds of cattle, sheep, pigs, goats and horses being raised. Many successful studs are located within the Shire, some holding on-property sales while others choose to sell through general sales or agents.

Some Gwydir Country farmers are also starting to diversify from the mainstream into other areas, with agricultural products such as aquaculture, olives, alpacas, ostriches and pecan nuts. In addition, many home-based businesses are being created using local produce.
